Brewing news USA, TX: Tupps Brewery preparing to transition to a new chapter and new location

After more than eight years in the craft beer industry, Tupps Brewery is preparing to transition to a new chapter and new location, the Local Profile reported on February 6.

According to Tupps, after outgrowing the current 17,000 sq. ft. space, the company relocated to the former site of McKinney Grain site. A grand opening event is planned for March 9, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The move entails an extensive renovation of a 120-year-old grain mill, the establishment of a cutting-edge 25,000 sq. ft. production brewery and the creation of a retail craft community within repurposed grain bins. In total, the project will span over 40,000 sq. ft. across a scenic 4-acre landscape.

As Local Profile previously reported, Tupps could make around 12,000 barrels per year, whereas the new production facility will be able to produce between 50,000 and 55,000.

“I’m incredibly excited to be able to produce more beer and get caught up if we need to,” Head Brewer Chris Lewis told Local Profile. “With the new facility, we’ll be able to brew in a day what is currently taking us a full week.”

According to Tupps, the McKinney Grain site allows the brewery to enhance the rustic, distinctive and relaxed atmosphere cherished by patrons. Featuring a spacious outdoor stage, the location will be a hub for live music and theater events.

The brewery’s new location also provides McKinney with an important way to extend the historic downtown cultural district and aids in the redevelopment of east McKinney by taking over a grain processing factory that has been in operation for over 120 years. The deal also includes a 2% revenue share with the city.

“The city of McKinney is committed to revitalizing the east side of our historic downtown area, and I could not think of a better partner than Tupps to start this process,” Mayor George Fuller told Local Profile. “Tupps will bring much-needed energy to this area, which will attract other businesses and expand our historic downtown footprint.”

Tupps’ new location will be at 402 E. Louisiana St, McKinney. The current Taproom at 721 Anderson will be open through Feb. 25, 2024.
